What is the default pipeline?

See how the default pipeline works as a fallback and how to change which pipeline is set as the default

Every organisation must have at least one pipeline, and one of them is always marked as the default. The default pipeline acts as a safety net, ensuring events are always assigned to a valid workflow.

When the default pipeline is used

The default pipeline is automatically applied when:

  • An event is submitted that doesn’t match any assignment rule.

  • A new organisation is set up with Events for the first time.

Default pipeline behaviour
  • The default pipeline is created automatically when Events is first enabled.

  • By default, it contains three stages: New, In progress, and Closed.

  • You can rename the pipeline, edit its stages, and configure fields and guidance, just like any other pipeline.

  • The default pipeline cannot be deleted if it’s the only one in your organisation.

Changing the default pipeline
  1. Go to Object Manager → Events → Pipelines.

  2. Find the pipeline you want to set as default.

  3. Click the three dots menu (•••) next to it.

  4. Select Mark as default.

The new pipeline becomes the fallback for any events that don’t match assignment rules.

Tip: Use the default pipeline for simple or general-purpose events, and create additional pipelines for more complex workflows.
