How to delete and hide fields (Events)

Understand how to remove or deactivate unused fields and how it impacts existing event data

If a field is no longer needed in your Event Record, you can remove it so users no longer see it when managing events. Fields can be hidden (by removing them from layouts or pipelines) or deleted permanently from the Field Manager.

Before taking action, it’s important to check whether the field is still used to store form responses and whether it contains data you may need to keep.

Step 1. Review how the field is used and verify the existing data stored within it.

Before hiding or deleting a field, check whether it’s currently being used to store form responses and whether any data has already been recorded against it. You can watch the video below to see how to check this.

Step 2. Hide the field or delete it

Follow the step-by-step instructions or watch the video guide below.

Option 1: Hide a field (recommended if you want to keep existing data)

If you want to stop users from entering new data but keep historical data in reports, you can hide the field. This prevents new entries while retaining the information already collected.

To hide a field from pipeline stages:

  1. Go to Object Manager → Events → Pipelines.

  2. Open the pipeline where the field appears.

  3. Select the relevant stage.

  4. Find the field in the Relevant fields list and untick the field.

  5. Click Publish to save your changes.

To hide a field from the layout:

  1. Go to Object Manager → Events → Layout Editor.

  2. Find the field and remove it by dragging it out of the layout, and dropping it into the list of fields on the left.

  3. Click Publish to save your changes.

Hiding a field means that users will no longer see it, and new data will not be captured in that field. However, any existing data will remain stored and visible in reports.

Option 2: Delete a field permanently

If a field is no longer relevant, completely unused, or contains no data you need to keep, you can delete it permanently. Before doing this, make sure you’ve reviewed any data associated with the field and exported anything you want to keep.

Deleting a field should only be done once you’re confident it’s no longer required anywhere in your setup.

To delete a field:

  1. Remove the field from any Pipelines so it no longer appears in any stages.

    • Go to Object Manager → Events → Pipelines.

    • Open each pipeline and check whether the field is selected as a relevant field for any stage. To search the page quickly, use Ctrl + F on your keyboard and type in your field name.

    • If it is, untick it to remove it from that stage.

    • Click Publish to save your changes before leaving the pipeline.

  2. Remove the field from the Layout Editor to prevent it from appearing in the Event Record.

    • Go to Object Manager → Events → Layout Editor.

    • Locate the section where the field appears, then drag it out of the layout to remove it. To search the page quickly, use Ctrl + F on your keyboard and type in your field name.

    • Click Publish to save your updated layout.

  3. Delete the field from the Field Manager.

    • Go to Object Manager → Events → Field Manager.

    • Click the three dots next to the field you want to delete and select Delete.

    • Type DELETE in the confirmation box when prompted.
