How to use pipelines in the event record

Learn how to progress events through stages, follow stage guidance, and change an event to a different pipeline in the event record

Pipelines let you set up different workflows for different types of events. This helps structure the follow-up and investigation process, so at each stage you only see the fields and guidance that are relevant.

Each workflow is called a Pipeline, and within each pipeline there are defined stages, shown at the top of the event record. The event record also shows you which pipeline the event belongs to and the current stage it’s in.

As you move through the stages, the event record displays only the fields and guidance needed for that part of the process, keeping the investigation focused and manageable.

For more details on pipelines, see this article.

Progressing events through stages

At the top of the event record, you’ll see a stage bar that shows the current stage of the event.

  1. Guidance: stages may include notes explaining what’s expected at that point (for example, uploading a document or completing an investigation form).

  2. Relevant fields: Only the fields chosen for the current stage are shown by default, making it clear what you need to complete now.

  3. Show all fields: If you need full visibility, you can toggle to show every field on the record instead of just the relevant ones.

Changing an event’s pipeline

You can change which pipeline an event belongs to if it needs to follow a different workflow.

  1. Open the event record.

  2. Click on the Pipeline menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Select the pipeline that you wish to change it to.

  4. Once you select a different pipeline, the stages will stage.

The event will restart in the first stage of the new pipeline.

Tip: Use pipelines to keep workflows clear and consistent, but remember you can always change an event’s pipeline later if circumstances change.
