How to charge and check the battery on a Safe Pro device

This article explains how to charge a Safe Pro device, check its battery level, and troubleshoot charging issues.

How to charge a Safe Pro device

  1. Place the Safe Pro into the magnetic charging dock included in the box. The device will attach to the charging pins and sit securely in place.
  2. Connect the dock to a power source using the USB cable provided.
  3. Check the LED light on the device to confirm that charging has started. See ‘Safe Pro LED lights explained’ for what each LED pattern means.

Note: You can leave the Safe Pro in the dock when it is not in use. Once fully charged, the device stops drawing power. Keeping the device docked means it will be fully charged and ready at the start of the next shift.

Note: The Safe Pro must be turned on to charge. When you place the device in the charging dock, it will turn on automatically. It will remain on when you remove it from the dock. This means lone workers can assign it to themselves quickly and use it straight away if it is connected to the mobile network.

How to check the battery level on a Safe Pro device

On the Safe Pro device, a solid amber LED means the battery is low and needs charging.

To check the battery level in the Protector Mobile app:

  1. Open the Protector Mobile app.
  2. Tap the 'Devices' tab in the bottom navigation bar.
  3. Tap your Safe Pro from the device list.

The device details screen will open and display the assigned user, device ID, and current battery level.

How to troubleshoot a Safe Pro that is not charging

If your Safe Pro does not charge when placed in the dock, work through these steps:

  1. Check that the dock is connected to a working power source and that the USB cable is fully inserted at both ends. If the dock doesn't have a solid red LED, this indicates no power is reaching it.
  2. Try a different wall socket in another part of the room to rule out a socket fault.
  3. If possible, test with a different USB cable or wall plug. You can also connect the cable directly to a USB hub to test without the plug.
  4. Remove the device and place it back in the dock, pressing it firmly all the way down so the charging contacts on the bottom of the device align with the metal pins inside the dock.
  5. Check the LED light. If it still doesn't light up, the issue may be with the cable, dock, or device.
  6. Check the charging pins on the dock and the contacts on the bottom of the device for dirt or debris. Dust and grime can build up and break the connection. Clean them gently with a dry cloth or a short burst of compressed air.
  7. Check that nothing is blocking the device from sliding fully into the dock.
  8. If you have access to another Safe Pro or another charging dock, swap them one at a time to identify whether the issue is with the device or the dock.

Note: Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself.
